National Public Transport Strike – Wednesday, June 24

On Wednesday 24 June, there will be a strike affecting public transport until 08:00. The FNV and CNV trade unions are taking industrial action against the government’s plans to cut spending. Although the public transport operators are not involved in this dispute, the industrial action will have a direct impact on our timetable. Fewer buses and trams will be running. With U-Flex, it is not possible to book a journey before 08:00. There will also be no NS trains running until 08:00 in the morning. Do you have an important appointment? If so, we advise you to find alternative transport during the strike.

Public transport Utrecht city Centre

Bus and tram services within Utrecht will start at 08:00. We are doing this to ensure the safety of staff and passengers and to prevent uncertainty and unpredictability in the operation of the timetable. We advise passengers to choose alternative transport or to postpone their journey until at least after 08:00. There will still be cancellations and delays until 10:00.

Public transport in Utrecht Countryside

In Utrecht Buiten, services will start as normal as far as possible. The extent to which this is possible depends on the number of staff taking part in the strike. Please allow for cancelled services and delays. We are doing our best to remove all cancelled journeys from the journey planner as quickly as possible. Please check the journey planner shortly before departure to see if your bus is running.

Background

We regret that travellers are being affected by this action. Public transport is there for everyone and plays an important role in the daily lives of many people. It is therefore undesirable that travellers and the public transport system should bear the brunt of a social and political debate that lies outside our sector.

We understand that trade unions wish to draw attention to issues they consider important. At the same time, we find it entirely inappropriate that public transport and our passengers are being used for this purpose. Ultimately, it is passengers who bear the brunt of this.

As a transport operator, we do not take a political stance and we do not take a position within this social debate. Public transport is for everyone, regardless of background, beliefs or political preferences. That is why we are not taking sides in the discussion that has led to this action.
