OV-chipcard
Travelling with the OV-chipkaart: with credit on your card, you can travel with all public transport operators throughout the Netherlands. You pay a fixed base fare plus a set amount per kilometre; this way you only pay for the distance you travel.
Travelling with your payment card (OVpay)
Did you know you can also travel using your bank card (OVpay)? Topping up credit is no longer necessary. Simply check in and out with your debit card, credit card or mobile phone. Just like with the OV-chipcard, you pay a fixed base fare plus a set amount per kilometre – you pay for what you travel. The fare for your journey appears automatically on your bank statement. Read more about OVpay.
The OV-chipcard will be phased out in the near future. Think carefully about whether you still want to buy or renew one.
Personal OV-chipkaart
If you still want or need a personal OV-chipcard, you can buy one for €7.50 via www.ov-chipkaart.nl.
A personal OV-chipkaart is linked to an individual cardholder. When you use a personal OV-chipkaart as your ticket, your identity must match the identity stated on the card and, if a photo is required, it must be a true likeness. You are not allowed to use someone else’s personal OV-chipkaart.
Anonymous OV-chipkaart
The anonymous OV-chipkaart is no longer for sale. We are switching to OVpay. This involves checking in and out with the new OV-pas or your debit card. You can easily order the new OV-pas online via ovpay.nl. You can then top up the pass online. Would you prefer to buy the new OV-pas in a store? You can do so at Primera. You can also top up the pass at Primera—in cash or with your debit card.
Has your anonymous OV-chipkaart not expired yet? Then you can still travel with it for the time being. Would you prefer to switch already? Easily request a refund of your balance and continue your journey with OVpay.
