Travelling with a tram or bus e-ticket in Utrecht

You can easily travel with an e-ticket on U-OV trams and buses. You can buy all available digital tickets in the U-OV app. They’re ideal for single journeys, if you want to pay for several people or if you don’t have an OV-chipkaart. You pay securely via iDEAL, credit card or several other payment methods are on offer. After payment, the ticket appears directly in the app.

How checking in works

Your e-ticket contains a barcode that you use to check in and out. For the tram, you check in at the stop; on the bus, you use the barcode reader when boarding.

Steps:

  1. Make sure the brightness of your smartphone screen is set to the brightest level possible.

  2. Hold the barcode under the reader.

  3. Make sure the red light is centred on the barcode.

  4. Wait until the green light appears: you can now board.

  5. When getting off, hold your barcode under the reader again.

With an e-ticket you travel easily and hassle-free.

Important: An e-ticket is personal. Always bring a valid ID. During ticket inspection you must be able to show both your ticket and your ID. The name on the ticket must match your identification. Valid documents include a passport, driving licence or identity card.

Buying multiple tickets? Then the main booker’s ID is required. This person’s name appears on all e-tickets.

No refunds

Have you accidentally bought the wrong ticket? Unfortunately, we cannot refund or change it. So please double-check your details before you complete your payment.
