May 31: Utrecht Marathon

On Sunday, May 31, the Utrecht Marathon will take place. This major sports event is for all ages along the highlights of the Dom City. The mix of running through the historic city center and the beautiful green surroundings offers a unique running experience. The start and finish are at the Utrecht Science Park.

Tram runs specially for the marathon
Normally, the tram does not run to Utrecht Science Park on weekends. But specially for the marathon, it does. This makes travel comfortable for runners and spectators to the start and finish. From 7:00 AM, the tram runs eight times per hour from Utrecht Central to Utrecht Science Park. You can board and alight at Heidelberglaan stop. Note: Padualaan stop will not be used this day.

Adjusted bus routes
For a safe marathon, several roads will be closed. This also means some bus routes change. Here's what it means for the buses:

  • Line 2
    • Does not run during the marathon.
    • Before and after the marathon, the bus detours around Domplein due to setup and dismantling.
  • Science Park
    • Padualaan stop is out of use for bus and tram. Use Heidelberglaan stop.
  • Line 8 - Lunetten
    • Runs via Brennerbaan instead of Simplonbaan.
  • Line 8 - Oudwijk / Wilhelminapark
    • Runs directly from Stadsschouwburg to Oorsprongpark.
  • Line 341 – Koningsweg
    • Runs via Waterlinieweg and A12 instead of Koningsweg.

Plan your trip
The marathon will likely cause extra crowding in the city. Please allow extra travel time. Check current travel info in our travel planner or in the U-OV app.

Have fun

We wish all runners lots of fun and success during the marathon!
