National strike on Wednesday, September 9

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, there will be a national public transport strike. The unions FNV and CNV call on sector employees not to work that day. They protest against government plans on social security. The public transport companies do not participate in this countrywide conflict. However, we experience its effects. Trains, buses, trams, and metros will run differently on Wednesday than usual.

What does this mean for U-OV?

The Nieuwegein district bus, community buses, and U-flex will operate normally. In Utrecht City, we try to run as many buses and trams as possible on the busiest and most important routes. In the Utrecht Countryside, we aim to run according to the regular schedule. The number of buses and trams running will only be known the day itself. This depends on how many staff report for work Wednesday morning, afternoon, and evening. Therefore, the situation may change during the day: trips may be canceled or delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Our Advise

Can you travel differently on September 9? Please do so. If you still travel by public transport, check the travel planner in the U-OV app or on our website just before departure. We keep travel info as up-to-date as possible.

Utrecht Countryside

In the Utrecht Countryside, we run the usual timetable as much as possible. How well this succeeds depends on how many drivers join the strike. We expect about half the buses to run. Which ones, we only know the day itself. We do our best to remove canceled trips from the trip planner as soon as possible. Check the travel planner shortly before departure to see if your bus runs.
