22 January 2026
On January 8, we already shared a look back and a look ahead. We now want to give you a brief update.
At the moment, buses are still canceled far too often. We find this very unpleasant for you as a traveler. The main cause lies in the current schedules for our drivers. These include extra bus changes for drivers, which can cause a domino effect. If one trip is delayed, the next trip cannot run on time, or issues arise with bus changes. This causes delay after delay, ultimately resulting in canceled trips. We still also face staff shortages.
From February 8 (Utrecht Binnen), we will adjust the schedules. This is an important first step toward a more reliable timetable. Additionally, from February 15 (Utrecht Buiten), we will improve several lines to make it easier for travelers to complete their journey without unnecessary transfers.
These changes take effect from February 15:
Better for you and our drivers. They work hard every day to transport everyone quickly, safely, and reliably. Something that is sometimes quite challenging now. We also continue to improve real-time travel information.
You might wonder why this was not organized like this from the start. With the knowledge we have now, we certainly would have done it differently. The province of Utrecht is a complex public transport area, making the work more complicated than it may seem. We underestimated this, and we honestly admit that. We regret that you are affected by this situation. We are doing everything to make your journey with U-OV as easy as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
