What are we working on

11/06/2026

Recently, trip cancellations have dropped to about 8% in Utrecht Inner and 2% in Utrecht Outer. At the same time, we saw more trips canceled last week. We understand this affects your travel. Therefore, we keep working daily on improvements, so you can more often rely on stable and reliable public transport. Every step brings us closer to the high quality level we strive for you as a traveler.

What steps have we taken?
To make the timetable more reliable, we have taken various measures. For example, we adjusted the service package, so drivers need to switch buses less often and planning has become more stable. We have also temporarily scaled down the timetable to reduce pressure on our drivers and our buses. This enables us to operate the running trips better and more reliably. We are also making extra efforts to recruit and train new drivers and collaborate with external parties who can assist when needed. At the same time, we improve handling of canceled trips so travel information is updated faster.

Extra pressure due to fewer available drivers
Summer is approaching. Temporarily fewer drivers are available due to vacation leave. Additionally, sickness absence is higher than expected, and it remains difficult to find new bus drivers. Our drivers often drive extra shifts. We also cooperate with external parties who assist. Despite these efforts, it sometimes happens that we don't have enough drivers to cover all trips.

Better travel information, even during disruptions
We understand it is frustrating to wait at a stop for a bus or tram that is late or not running. Therefore, we continue working on better and more up-to-date travel information in the U-OV app, in the journey planner on our website, and on stop displays. We monitor this continuously. Research shows travel information works well in most cases. At the same time, we see that during disruptions, sometimes incorrect or conflicting information is shown. Therefore, we are improving our systems and deploying extra staff. This way, as a traveler, you are better informed during disruptions.

Check the journey planner before departure
We advise you to check the journey planner in the U-OV app or on this website shortly before departure. It shows the most current travel information. Trips that are not running are removed from the planner as soon as possible.

Money back for delays or cancellations
If your trip takes longer than planned or a trip is canceled, you can use the ‘Money back for delay and cancellations’ scheme. More information is available on our website
